A fun little stop in Amboy, CA
The Blue Spruce Lodge is still open for business. However, too short a trip from our first night.
Next door, the Lariat Lodge appeared closed for business. But a neat sign.
A short walk turned up several interesting motel signs, some of the motels were still active.
… and one more just down the road,
Grants, NM, had some interesting structures and signs, some still in use, others relics.
One more Whiting Brothers sign as we turn around at the dead end of this snippet of R66.
Standing on a Corner
You get there guesses where we are - first two don’t count :-D
Point the Way...
Our first night on R66 after leaving Albuquerque, NM.
Mocha Moose
Great sign and great place for a bite to eat and a terrific cup of coffee while strolling Lake City, Colorado
Crystal Lake #34
Lake City, Colorado Freemasons Guild: Interesting sign and in fact an active guild in this small Colorado mountain town.
Red Umbrella
Not a very original title but it's accurate :-D LOL This type of signage is ubiquitous throughout the Netherlands. And it was the wonderful contrast of white 'newer' stucco building, red umbrella and 1800's gothic stone architecture in the background that caught my eye and tells an interesting story.
Derfriet
Neunen, Netherlands. One thing for sure - EVERYBODY wants fries with that :D LOL Little french fry shops are everwhere in Netherland cities.
De Aarrdappel Eters
Nothing like ice cream whilst strolling the streets of Neunen, Netherlands
Antwerp Fry Guy
Do you want fries with that? Fries were EVERYWHERE and their advertisizing was entertaining to say the least
Beer Bunny
Maastrictht, Netherlands. Gotta love the adhoc advertisiing strewn along the walkways through the town.
Ranch House Café
I sure hope the food is fresher than their sign :-D LOL I confess I liked the contrast of the sign patina with the modern crispness of the wind turbine.
Jake and Elwood
The Blues Brothers are still getting their kicks in Joliet here at the ice cream parlor. I confess to being a fan of Jake and Elwood.
Big DINO
The Big Texan Steak Ranch, motel and restaurant, had a Big Dinosaur out front. I think he's a lot of fun albeit complete outta context - and maybe that's the point :-D
Blue Swallow Motel
These olde schoole motel signs, classics from the 40's, 50's and 1960's, adorne route 66. Worth the drive just to hunt for them throughout the journey.
Keizersgracht
Signs and signage can take on an entirely different context in Europe. Here it's a man working on a shop sign, with the street sign virtually hidden in the ornate building signage adorning the entrance, dwarfed by the unit nuber sign above a side door
Ye Ole John Hancock
Skilled hands of an artist and sclupture signing their biography.
Taos Inn
I've always enjoyed strolling small towns in the western states looking for these sorts of little gems.
